The Cure revient en force auprès des ados américains / The Cure makes a splashing comeback among US teens...

... et déprime les vieux fans de mon âge, comme ce chroniqueur musical sur la radio de service public américaine NPR:

"Ah, The Cure.

... and depresses old fans my age, like this musical chronicler on NPR:
"Ha, The Cure, a teenage memory like acne. The feeling that our generation gets is probably rather similar to how babyboomers must feel when they hear a Rolling Stones song on the radio while driving their kids to college. [...] I'm an adult now and these guys are still making music."
+ a very good fan site covering the U.S. tour going on right now + for those interested, my article (in French) about the Cure's comeback in the US, with pics.

Jean Luc envoie aussi ce lien à un compte-rendu de concert de Cure à Boston qui décrit les Cure ainsi: "The Goth heavyweights"! (les poids-lourds gothiques", ouch!)

Emmanuelle:

Right on! I'm glad the Cure are touring.

I only WISH my gf would go back to wearing too much makeup and listening to Cure tunes!

If I have to listen to one more stomach-churning ALANIS tune I'M going to become a goth...

The horror....

Hi Cletus! Well, between Alanis or the new Cure album, I'm not sure which one I would select.... -sigh- The concerts on this tour are quite short, my friends say (a group of French Cure freaks who follow the band wherever they can) and well, my pals hate the new album, which doesn't help. The band was dreadful at Coachella I thought, but superb last September at the KROQ Inland Empire. So you never really know if you're going to miss a historical moment. My pals had me join them and Robert Smith backstage at Coachella, and this was a memorable experience.

Back in May, Robert gave a cheerful interview on KROQ, which is of interest to the fans. It is archived here (near the bottom of the page) http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/ChainofFlowers/audiovideo.html

Emmanuelle:

I've noticed British bands have a tendency to promote their newest release which often results in short shows---as opposed to a Ramones-style "for the fans" type of set...

Nevertheless, I'd rather watch paint dry than sit through an Alanis show! :)

Is Alanis back with a loud new album or something? So much suffering!

Hey, it's possible about British bands. But again, you can never tell with the Cure. I went to several dates on the last U.S. tour (2 years ago? 3?) and some evenings were filled with old songs including the traditional 20 minute-long Forest finale, other evenings were just bland compared to it. That's why the Cure has so many fans following them around the world - at least, that's how those fans justify it: you just never know and the track list can change so much from one evening to another.

I like a band that mixes up their shows like that!

Better a brief (but painless) Cure set to the interminable horrors of AM's 19-song whine-a-thon...

The (((horror)))...!
