As a footnote to an article published in Monday's Libération on the fate of death-row inmate Stanley "Tookie" Williams laying in Arnold Schwarzenegger's hand the Canadian Globe and Mail describes a Californian governor very torn... due to his two brains:

Mr. Schwarzenegger admits to being torn over Tookie's fate. In an interview this year, he recalled his origins in Austria, where the death penalty is banned. “Very few people have that chance to live in a body with kind of two brains, kind of like the Austrian brain and the American brain. . . . They're fighting with each other all the time, you know, where I argue with myself about these things.”

I know very well what he's trying to say, and hope that at the end his conscience will prevail. The Los Angeles Times has a very rich section on the "Tookie" debate here. (Registration to the LAT site through Bugmenot, as always.)
