Nouveau papa-gâteau pour Wonkette / Wonkette's new sugar daddy

Congrats Ken Layne! Our friend Ken just acquired legendary political blog Wonkette from Nick Denton.

Funny: while on vacation on a remote island, I just read "Washingtonienne," by Jessica Cutler, the uninhibited and slightly troubled Capitol intern who had a few friends-with-benefits relationships with rich old dudes in Washington. In 2004, her blog fueled the first big sex scandal on Wonkette... known as "Bloguette" in this very entertaining roman à clef that is a must-read for any novice in the American capital. Not only because of you-know-what: I had never read anything so revealing about the work life in congressional offices before.

Just as "Ain't They Pretty" rolls out of iTunes! High-five to the heavy hand of Fate!

Emmanuelle: Having worked in Congress (both House and Senate, as well as other related places on Capitol Hill, from 1992-2001), I can attest that what Ms Cutler has written in her book, does represent the general lifestyle enjoyed by many Congressional staff.

The irony in all this is that, in order not to shock the folks back home, the "Hill" promotes such a staid, socially conservative image of itself. Young couples who are casually spending the night at each others' houses refer to their lovers as "my fiance/fiancee". And on and on... It's really funny!
