Now Blogging L.A. has new information: according to them, the police told the gallery that they closed the exhibit in response to one e-mail (ONE!) from a shocked and anonymous citizen, probably the same person who called the gallery owners communists (the ignominy!). But the police report mentions 200 protesters, who, according to witnesses, were never there! Of course, the gallery is minutes away from ghetto neighborhoods where gangstas kill each other and terrorize residents.
In New York last year, a painting featuring a portrait of W. Bush made of multiple monkeys was removed from an art show by the manager, not the police, and it all ended up pretty well.
Hey Paul, I thought about that since it's so absurd. It's very possible that this gallery is not harassed because of the art, but because of lazy cops. I can see them change their explanation because they don't really care why they intervened that evening (oh, it was because of an e-mail... it was going on too late... or perhaps there were demonstrators... We did it because we could, so get over it!)
I wish L.A. cops would come as quickly and efficiently when I call them.

Something smells fishy. My paranoid side wonders if it's ye olde "call the cops on yourself" publicity stunt. But then my paranoid side is, well, paranoid.
