WHO:
MODERATOR: investigative reporter and trainer Don Ray of the Daily Journal
SPONSORS: PR Newswire and Silver Lake Wine.
Journalists aren't the only ones digging deep for information. Private investigators do pretty much the same kind of research, but with a different approach and different tools. What can reporters learn from the best private eyes? In an age when, as the Los Angeles Times recently stated, "Private eyes are now seen as essential in high-profile cases," and when traditional journalistic methods aren't enough to get every crucial bit of data, an increasing number of production companies, reporters and book writers are hiring outside investigative agencies. Does working with P.I.s violate journalistic ethics? Are investigators portrayed fairly in the media? Can the two sides learn from one another?

That's right, didn't you go to a seminar he gave to student journalists back in the days of the Daily Nexis? (Daily Lexus? I'm all confused) Matt attended one of his seminars and loved it.
I first heard of him at the PI school, when they showed us a video of one of his class, filled with tips on searching for public records. I was blown away. It's so great that he accepted to moderate this evening at the press club. I asked Don about this mysterious "Dazzle tour"... waiting to hear the story.
Oh, you just had to tempt me with that wine! Hey, I finally saw Sweet Smell of Success at the New Beverly the other night and is it just me or is J.J. Hunsecker an "evil Spock" version of the illustrious Mr. Matt Welch?
Thanks Raymond Chandler at Fishbowl L.A.!
Wow! Don Ray is excellent! What a great speaker, and what a character! One of the things I've always wanted to do with him is to go with him on his "Dazzle Tour." Ask him about it, if you haven't already.
